Anxiety
What Is Anxiety?
As humans we all want to live happy fruitful lives that are free of tension, stress, and worry. When your body is in a persistent state of tension, stress and worry it effects hormones that are released in the brain, the nervous system, the circulatory system, and the digestive system. Being in an anxious state is a healthy response to danger, but when it is part of daily living, it is not necessary. Anxiety is a false alarm that happens as a response to stress. It can occur with unproductive repetitive thoughts, feeling emotionally overwhelmed and, a perceived physical state of danger. Counselling can help you sort through the causes and symptoms of anxiety.
What Can Anxiety Feel Like?
- Worrying thoughts of “what if” can consume moments of happiness as you feel worried something bad will happen.
- You think in worst case scenario most of the time, which can prevent you from living your life.
- Thoughts of “I should be” at a certain stage in your life, have already accomplished certain things, and thinking negatively about yourself, your achievements, and your goals.
- Distorted thinking can lead to self isolation and avoiding people, even the people that mean the most to you.
- You have difficulty relaxing because you have racing thoughts that make you feel emotionally overwhelmed. These thoughts keep you up at night, prevent you from concentrating or distract you.
- When you think of others, you compare yourself and worry that they think about you
- Feeling the need to stay busy physically or mentally to distract yourself so that you do not think or feel about past or future events.
How I Can Help With Anxiety
We can work together to learn about how your body reacts to anxiety. Learning to identify how stress, tension and worry manifests in your body is important to identifying pre states of anxiety. When we learn to identify the pre states of anxiety we can then learn to control the anxiety itself. Thoughts, feelings, and actions are all interconnected. We can work together to identify where the negative thoughts are, when they happen, and how they make you feel so that you can take charge over your anxiety and master it.
